Charlotte Sands unveils new single "Alright"
I love festivals because I feel like there are so many people that don’t know me and that feels like a challenge but I love the headlining shows because it feels like a reunion with all of your friends. You’ve exceeded 135 million streams, what has been your proudest moment in your career so far? I’ve had so many moments that I look back on its impossible to choose one. There are so many moments that I am proud of and I am so lucky to be able to say that.
NEW NOISE: CHARLOTTE SANDS – “ALRIGHT”
Mixing the melodic rush, fiery attitude and relentless energy of pop-punk with the kind of voice and instantly irresistible hooks that powers chart-bound pop stars, Charlotte Sands bridges the space between those two worlds. The chorus delivers the powerful message that the narrator may never be completely alright, but there is hope for improvement. They acknowledge that they are drinking with their ghosts tonight, metaphorically referencing past experiences that continue to haunt them. Despite this, they still believe that things can get better in time. “Alright” is a song that speaks to the struggles of self-doubt and the search for inner peace.

You’ve played shows with My Chemical Romance, YUNGBLUD, and Ava Max, what has been your favourite live performance or tour experience? I’ve had so much fun touring over the last year and they’ve all been such a vital part of my growth as an artist and as a human. I think my favourite experience would be the current tour I’m on right now with PVRIS because it’s the first time I’ve ever toured outside of the country and it’s truly been the most rewarding experience of my life. You moved from Massachusetts to Nashville at 18 to pursue your songwriting, can you tell us about that experience and how it shaped your career? Moving to Nashville was the best decision because it was so challenging but forced me to fight harder for my career than I ever had. I took every opportunity that came my way and learned so much from the incredible artists and songwriters that live there, I’m so grateful for their wisdom and their support.

As part of the partnership, Charlotte is releasing limited edition merchandise with the JED Foundation, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the organisation. She explains, “We wrote ‘Alright’ with the hope that it can bring comfort to even just one person. The future can be daunting, especially in uncertain times, but this song is a reminder to keep moving forward. Life does go on, and things will get better.” Join Charlotte on her journey to create a brighter future for the social misfits of the world. With her music and her heart, she’s proving that anything is possible.
Alright - Single
You’ve been compared to pop-punk and chart-bound pop stars, how do you bridge the gap between those two worlds in your music? I try to bridge the gap by focusing on releasing music that is an authentic representation of myself and not trying too hard to fit into any specific genre. I want to make music that people can relate to and to do that I write about my personal experiences that sometimes may feel more like a pop song or more like a rock song depending on my mood and emotions while writing it.
She was alone in the pandemic with nothing but her thoughts and a melody. Instead of pop and rock, she released her inhibitions and created a beautiful song seeped in vulnerability. There is such comfort in knowing you are not alone in feeling alone. Fitting in is something so many people yearn for just to realize you should never conform your identity. The most sought after group is the one made up of all the misfits who know their greatest power is not changing for anyone. People always want to fit a mold or be perceived a certain way, but when we’re chasing what someone else has, they’re scoping the room trying to find something to replace that with.
Genius is the world’s biggest collection of song lyrics and musical knowledge
The rising star brings hope to the world of misfits with her mesmerising new track. 2023 will see Charlotte’s profile accelerate, starting with the release of her new single “Alright”. Overall, “Alright” is a beautifully crafted song that explores the complexities of the human experience. Its relatable lyrics, combined with Charlotte Sands’ exceptional talent, create a heartfelt and powerful composition that resonates with audiences on multiple levels. Sands performed as a supporting act on The Band Camino's Screaming in the Dark North American tour and 5 Seconds of Summer's The 5SOS Show European tour in September and October of 2023. Charlotte Sands (born August 9, 1996) is an American singer-songwriter.
“Alright” is about having hope when it feels nearly impossible and forcing yourself to see the light at the end of the tunnel, holding onto even the slightest chance that it will get better. We wrote this song with the hope that it could remind even one person that life does go on and nothing is forever. The future can be so daunting especially in times of uncertainty, and it can so often feel like you’re stuck without a way out, but this song is a sign to keep moving forward because it will get better. She was inspired from a young age by artists, like Michelle Branch, who could convey a story in so much detail and captivate their audience from start to finish. Charlotte has always wanted to create a safe space at her shows where people can escape reality for a while and be free to dance and sing in a crowd surrounded by other people who are there for the exact same reason.
Sands released her sophomore EP Love and Other Lies[4] on January 21, 2022 which included her 2021 singles, Dress, and two additional tracks, Want You Like That and the title track. She promoted the EP as a supporting act on Yungblud's Life On Mars 2022 North American tour,[5] The Maine's XOXO tour,[6] and her debut headline tour[7] named after the project. You’ve played festivals such as Bonnaroo, Riot Fest, and SXSW, how does the energy of a festival performance compare to a headline tour? Every show is so different and that’s what makes them all so exciting.
The ethereal track follows a profound turning point in her story, as she channels her experiences as an outsider into empowering art. In addition to this release, Charlotte announced her new partnership with the JED Foundation, an emotional health and suicide prevention for teens and adults to bring awareness to these issues. The partnership will include limited-edition Charlotte Sands x JED Foundation merchandise, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the nonprofit. Her initial plan was to spend a year in Nashville before attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music. But she fell so hard into the creativity that the community provides that she didn’t want to leave.
All my monsters live in the mirror, so I stare them straight in the face. Tell them even though I’m lost, I’m not afraid.” This section reveals the cycle of seeking change but ultimately feeling trapped by familiar surroundings. However, the narrator chooses to confront their fears and affirm their resilience. Let us know in the comments below or by tweeting us @thehoneypop! One more that we can’t get enough of is ‘Bad Day.’ It’s a catchy bop that we’re pretty much addicted to (But really, that’s the case for all of her songs!).
Her mother was an aspiring actress and her father was a musician. She stated that her parents "never halted [her] creativity and told [her] to have realistic goals." She notes Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Alanis Morissette, We the Kings, Mayday Parade, and The Maine as early inspirations. Just over a year ago Sands released her latest EP Love and Other Lies. Request to have your music or video reviewed by the Top Shelf Music staff. She’s firmly on a trajectory which mirrors Katy Perry’s breakthrough, when she was racing up the charts while performing on the Warped Tour.
There is already so much pressure assigned with this industry and being confined into certain boxes and I personally want to try everything and continue to give myself the freedom to create whatever feels organic in that moment. Charlotte wrote “Alright” when she was in a very low place in life. She felt hopeless for the future, and that feeling began to isolate her.
We convince ourselves it’s situational, and when we finally move to this place, quit that job, get in a better relationship, everything will feel different… but that’s not always the case. We are who we are, and just because we don’t seem on the same track as everyone else, we are exactly where we need to be. Everyone has things in their life they wish they could change, whether it be internal or external, but some people are just better at plastering a fake smile and convincing the world they are perfect. Those masks that people wear can make the rest of us feel inadequate, lost, and hopeless, but sometimes its better to wear your emotions on your sleeve, face your issues head on, and be exactly who you are instead of pretending. Our time is coming, and acknowledging yourself at your worst means appreciating yourself with every little victory. Your single “Dress” has exceeded 35 million streams and spent ten weeks in the Top 40 on pop radio in the States, how does it feel to have such a successful moment in your career?
